Eudora Welty used imagery, metaphors, and exposition to represent the conflict. Flannery O’Connor used symbolism, persona, and situational irony to represent the conflict. The metaphor used in a worn path describes an elderly woman who had some problems within herself. Thing like, “her eyes were blue with age” (Clugston, R. W. (2014) gave the impression of a very elderly women. In order to represent the conflict with nature the author used exposition by writing, “it was December – a bright frozen day in the early morning (Clugston, R. W. (2014). Far out in the country there was an old Negro woman with her head tied in a red rag, coming along a path in the pine woods (Clugston, R. W. (2014). This gave me a sense of the setting at the beginning of the story and makes me feel as if there will be a conflict with nature since she is in the woods. The imagery used implied that the elderly woman was not in the best of shape to handle the path. The path ran up a hill. “Seems like there is chains about my feet,
