finally to baristas…like me! Through my work experience with Starbucks as a barista, I can say with great confidence that Starbucks culture is promoted heavily amongst employees. Training starts with a whole session of sitting down with your manager and talking about the history and culture of Starbucks. You then learn, through reading and doing activities, the values of Starbucks, for example “assume the best in everyone”. Then you move into online training where you learn the rituals and language of the day to day job. For example, we are taught that at the cashier there is a certain order of how you are to tend to a customer to allow for the best customer service possible and to make your customer feel like they are the most important. They have systems in place for you to reward or compliment your fellow employees and supervisors are always on the lookout to see if you are upholding the Starbucks culture. Collectively these things plus more create the culture of Starbucks that attracts their market. Gallo, C. (2014, April 23). The ability to access any university’s resources through Course Hero proved invaluable in my case. I was behind on Tulane coursework and actually used UCLA’s materials to help me move forward and get everything together on time.
