protein alternative to meat for soldiers. It was an instant hit and returning servicemen made peanut butter and jelly sales escalade in the United States. This is what is most likely to be known as the birth of the PB&J sandwich. The ingredients to a peanut butter and jelly sandwich are pretty straightforward… To make a classic peanut butter and jelly sandwich you get two pieces of sandwich bread, spread peanut butter on one side and jelly on the other and then combine them in salty- sweet deliciousness. Of course there are variations to the peanut butter and jelly. For example, creamy or crunchy peanut butter may be used. Any type of bread including white or wheat can be used, and there are countless types of jelly that different people prefer. There are even greater changes that can be made including adding honey or fruit like bananas or apples. Other variants include ingredients like Nutella, marshmallows, butter or raisins. My favorite combination is crunchy peanut butter and grape jelly on soft wheat bread.

Just when you thought making a sandwich couldn’t get any easier... it did. It was not until the two thousands that the “Sealed Crustless Sandwich” for a peanut butter and jelly sandwich was invented. The J.M. Smucker Company bought the patent from two inventors and created what is known today as Uncrustables. Uncrustables made it possible to have an instant and ready to go PB&J sandwich. It is even found in school lunches across the country. Maybe it is popular because of that salty-sweet flavor. Maybe it’s popular because parents appreciate how fast, simple, and inexpensive PB&J is to make. Either way, PB&J sandwiches hold an important part of American food history and childhood. It isn’t the most well known sandwich in America for nothing. The easy to make original really is simple-y delicious!

The ability to access any university’s resources through Course Hero proved invaluable in my case. I was behind on Tulane coursework and actually used UCLA’s materials to help me move forward and get everything together on time.
