I believe that the writer wanted to improve this so that the reader would get a better grasp and stay interested in the topic. 4. Evaluate the diction the writer uses throughout the revised version of her essay (See Unit 4, Lecture 2 for an explanation of "diction"). Is the writer's diction formal, popular, informal, or a mixture of one or more of these types? As a reader, how do you respond to the writer's diction? Do you feel she is speaking down to you? Explain why you do or don't feel this way. Do her words convey respect for you and your opinions? Explain why you do or don't feel this way. I believe that the essay is a mix between formal and popular. It isn’t formal like a legal document but it has distinct wording to tie it to that form of diction. It also has some slang like “IM” in it and it kind of follows the popular wording of today’s society. I don’t believe that the writer is speaking down to me at all. I
