My father served 22 years in the United States Air Force and made multiple sacrifices for his family and our country. Sometimes, while driving to work, I'll see a homeless veteran; and I ask myself, how is it possible for someone who has served to be homeless? Does she/he have disabilities that prevent the veteran from working? What are social service agencies doing to prevent these incidents? Service memeber can experience multiple and extended deployments, exposed to deadly weapons, depression, suicidal thoughts, separation, substance abuse, and martial issues. Additionally young adults ages between 17 to 20, join the military because they have no where to go, college wasn't for them, or seeking to be independent from there parents. How can the Generalist Invention Model might assist with the military community? The Generalist Invention Model is a wonderful tool to help assist with the military community because it invovles many skills and knowledge of resourcesto help solve problems. Practitioners may foucs attention on any problem or cluster of problems, even those that are very complex (Kirst-Ashman & Hull,2016). Another point would be social work involves targeting the environment to change (Kirst-Ashman& Hull,2016). For example, a young private that was raped, maybe afraid to tell her supervisor (Platoon Leader) because she is worried about being label as promiscuous and disrupting the morale of her platoon. Social workers can help advocate safe environments for military personnel to disclosed sexual offenses. A great social worker, who is truly concerned for the welfare of their clients; will strive to identify other individuals in the community, such as professionals, politicians, and other community leaders to help demand for change and progress (Kirst-Ashman & Hull, 2016).

As a social worker, how do you identify the needs and presenting concerns of a given population? Once you determine those needs and presenting concerns, how do you select the most appropriate intervention and assess that it is effective for this population and the specific concerns they face? Do you feel the GIM is applicable across diverse population group or would you recommend modify certain aspects based on a specific population group?Prof. TirmaziReplyQuoteEmail AuthorMessage ReadMark as UnreadMessage Not FlaggedSet Flag1 month ago
