p 145-146 doi: 10.1097/DCC.0b013e31819aef4e Hermoine, I like that you mentioned Advances Directives. Advanced Directives at made with your end of life in mind and are legal in all states. Advanced Directive give the patient the right to choose the care at the end of their life. “An advance directive is a written statement in which people state the type and amount of care they wish to receive during a terminal illness and as death approaches” (Fremgen, 2016, p. 113). According to Fremgen (2016), Withholding or withdrawing life-prolonging treatment-Patients must be able to make decisions concerning their lives. Physicians are committed to saving lives and relieving suffering. When these two objectives are in conflict, the wishes of the patient must be given preference. (p.273) However, death with dignity is not legal in all 50 states. As a nurse I believe that death with dignity is basically assisted suicide. According to Fremgen (2016), Some ethicists are concerned that if our society were to allow assisted suicide, it could lead to a form of legalized murder. This “slippery slope” argument against permitting assisted suicide is that it would eventually lead to a diminishing of our respect for life. (p. 334)

Once we start helping patients with terminal illnesses die who is next? The elderly, people with severe disabilities or defective infants? I don’t agree professionally with death with dignity. Thanks for sharing. References Fremgen, F., B. Medical Law and Ethics, 5/e. [MBS Direct]. Retrieved from

The ability to access any university’s resources through Course Hero proved invaluable in my case. I was behind on Tulane coursework and actually used UCLA’s materials to help me move forward and get everything together on time.
