Quarantine day thirty-two, starts as any other day, wake up, look into my phone and scroll through most of the news articles about the pandemic crisis and how many more people have been infected. Our new normal has changed dramatically, a very simple statement withholding a fragile reality, everyone’s costumes will be affected in some kind of way, for example in Peru we kiss someone on the cheek when saying hello, in Texas we hug when we see someone we know, however we are told to strain from physical touch. “So much of our social stimulation and satisfaction comes from face-to-face interactions and physical touch, we’re all going to be drinking the diet soda version of socializing the next few months—same sweet flavor, but very little of the emotional sustenance.” (Manson, Mark) I feel a little foolish to admit the word “quarantine” would be associated some romantic stories in my head, “ Love in the time of cholera” is just an example, yet its fun to dive into another era, another reality while reading, but now it’s present, we are isolated at home, some of us are lucky enough to have their families with them, some of us are lucky to still have an income, and some of us are yet still waiting for the stimulus check. “ The truth is that our fates were determined long ago by the millions of value-based decisions we have made as a culture. Cultures that have chosen to value science will test and get accurate data. Cultures that have not will have no idea what they’re dealing with.
