the greatest. The coach was Hall of Fame player K.C Jones. Jones won 12 championships as a coach, and 11 of them were with the Boston Celtics. Now that we know the coach lets see the players. The starting five was Hall of Famer Dennis Johnson, Danny Ainge, Hall of Famer and one of the best players ever to play Larry Bird, Hall of Famer Kevin McHale, and Hall of Famer Robert Parish. The backup shooting guards were Rick Carlisle and Sam Vincent. The backup small forward and power forward was Scott Wedman and David Thirdkill. The two backup centers were Greg Kite and a old future Hall of Famer Bill Walton. This was Bill’s last season in the NBA. Now that we know the coach and players on the team lets see what made them one ofthe greatest teams. One thing that has really changed over the years, is the three ball. What I mean is the 1985-86 Celtics only took 389 threes and 194 were from Larry Bird. And the 2016-17 Golden State Warriors took 2,563. Wardell Curry took more than the amount of the Celtics whole team with 790 attempts. Now that we know how they scored lets see the three highest scores for the team. The three highest scorer was Robert Parish with 16.1 ppg (points per game). The second highest was Kevin McHale with 21.3 ppg. Their leading scorer Larry Bird with a staggering 25.8 ppg. Larry wasn’t just a good shooter he also lead the team with rebounds with 9.8 per game. Another thing the Boston Celtics was great at was passing. As a team they averaged 30.9 assists a game. The three that lead the team was Danny Ainge with 5.1, Dennis Johnson 5.8,
and what do you Larry Bird with 6.8. On defense they averaged 8.1 steals and 6.9 blocks per game. That could be 15 more possessions with scoring. And if you scored all those times that could be 30 to 45 points. That is enough to really change the game. All around the 1985-86 Boston Celtics were one of the greatest teams with their great leaders, shooting, rebounds, and on defense. Toon in next week when I talk about Michael Jordan and the 1995-96 Chicago Bulls.
