paradigm demands that there should be zero tariffs and cut in agricultural subsidies to promote free trade, which can hurt the Asian countries’ key industries. 13 There are different types of regionalism, namely: open and closed regionalism, expansionist regionalism, and blocism. 14 In conclusion, the future of ASEAN will be exciting due to the fact that there are numerous competing theories of how ASEAN will evolve. Some may look at the EU as the model for increasing regional integration towards federalism/confederalism. However people like David Kang will argue that most scholars will look at Asia through the Eurocentric lens and that systemic pressures do not necessarily apply the same way in the West. However time will tell how ASEAN will evolve, perhaps in this 21 st century of globalization and regionalism, we might see two competing international economic systems between the US established global capitalism and that of the Asia Pacific realm. The ability to access any university’s resources through Course Hero proved invaluable in my case. I was behind on Tulane coursework and actually used UCLA’s materials to help me move forward and get everything together on time.
