Another area that could use some additional information is on how liberalism affected the religion. The timeframe of the Baptist Faith and Message was filled with many cultural events that shaped the way people thought and lived. It would be interesting to know how liberalism from outside sources, such as the seminaries who helped assist in the writing, were able to influence the research that was done to put the message into writing. Chapter four wrote of Early English and American Baptist unity and strength but it would be beneficial to know how the changing times affected the final product (pp. 81-82). In conclusion, Smith was able to prove what Hobbs was trying to do keep a denominational split from occurring it did leave some areas untouched and unanswered. Were the seminaries and church officials affected by the times and culture? What was the affect from outside forces and how were they handled among conservative leadership?
