Real World Applications: Gears are used constantly in everyday applications such as toys, clocks, mixers, bikes, oil rigs etc. Highly used in cars, gears are connected to the crankshaft, which turns the axel to the move the car. The first gear allows the crankshaft to move faster than the wheels, allowing more power for starting and going up hills while the fourth gear causes the wheels to travel with less power and is used to drive on the highway.
