I will try to ensure that my subordinates are cared for on a daily basis and that all their needs are taken into consideration. Thirdly, I have been able to identify a few possible dark leadership traits that I possess that I was unaware of. The biggest violation of this comes in the form of a shadow caster called personality disorder. Johnson (2018) mentions that there are three traits associated to personality disorders: narcissism, machiavellianism, and psychopathy. Of these three traits, I consider myself to be mildly narcissistic in nature. I tend to become upset when things don’t go my way, or I am not recognized for the accomplishments I excel in. Also, I tend to feel entitled to certain things even though they are not earned or deserved. As a leader, this is not a good trait to possess and now that I have identified it, I will be able to correct this deficiency so that my followers and subordinates do not see the negative effects it has on me. Lastly, I have also learned about the five perspectives of evil, how I can use certain steps to break away from evil, and the hardships that arise from both dark and light leaders. In the future, with a better understanding of this, I can help my peers and subordinates to identify hardships and work together to overcome any that might arise in the workplace as a team. Also, Iintend on enhancing character development in my work section by having open discussions with my Marines about the true meaning of character and will work towards instilling them with the tools it takes to be a light (ethical) leader. ConclusionLeadership can be observed in many different ways and can have many multifaceted issues. Focusing on leadership, leaders usually will focus on the light (ethical) forms of leadership and not the dark (unethical) side. Leaders possessing dark leadership traits need to ensure that they transformtheir style of leadership into a more ethical (light) style so that their behaviors are not destructivein nature. In this paper, we have compared and contrasted two prominent leaders from history, one a light (ethical) leader, the other a dark (unethical) leader by providing a brief biography of each leader, describing and defining the leadership style that both individuals utilized the most, and explained how both leaders demonstrated their leadership style. Furthermore, we analyzed the acts or behaviors that made both leaders ethical or unethical, described the effects both leaders had on an organization they led, explained the most important lesson I learned from this course, and how this information can be used in future situations.
