There are many different forms of identity theft. The following is a list of examples that identity theft may occur: Financial identity theft – Credit and bank information being used to purchase items without your knowledge or consent. Social Security misusage – Social Security is practically the most valuable tool to receive services only available to card holders and is popular with identity theft. Driver’s license misusage – Bad checks or avoid criminal charges. Criminal identity theft – Committing a crime in your name. Medical identity theft – To access and receive medical treatment. Synthetic identity theft – Using your social security number and generate fake credentials for birth dates, addresses, phone numbers; making it extremely difficult on your own life. Child identity theft – Using a child’s Social Security number for the same reasons as synthetic, medical and criminal.

COMMON METHODS OF IDENTITY THEFT Applying For Credit – Creating a synthetic ID to build a credit profile to get credit cards or loans. Authorized Users – Authorized user process is how most synthetic ID is made. It is allowable by credit cards to have authorized users. Data Furnishing – Using a front to enrich the synthetic ID to allow max out on credit cards with unsecured credit cards. (D’Alfonso, 2014). Stolen Information – Oftentimes sold by the employees at medical offices to the black market. Database Hack – Perpetrators may hack into the medical data base and download millions of information. Facilities Break-ins – Break into medical facilities and obtain physical records for information like SSN, DLN, etc. (CAIF, n.d.).
