compound is Ferrocene. Acetylferrocene has a melting point range from 81 - 83°C, which is also very similar to the range found using the apparatus, 80-85°C, indicating that the compound is Acetylferrocene. Many errors could have been made that could have lead to the low yield rate. Most importantly, the solution was spilled several times while moving it from different glassware, which could have significantly decreased the yield. In addition, if the wrong solvent was added first, or the collection of liquid was not switched to a different test tube when the color of the solution changed, it could have led to low yield rates. Ferrocene and Acetylferrocene was separated using Column Chromatography. Petroleum ether eluted Ferrocene, the less polar compound, while MtBE removed Acetylferrocene. The Rf values of the separated compound was very close to that of the pure compounds. Rf of Ferrocene after chromatography was 0.83 as compared to the pure Rf of 0.82 while Rf of Acetylferrocene after chromatography was 0.22 and the pure Rf was 0.2. Since the difference in the Rf values is so little, it indicates that the compounds separated were quite pure. Additionally, the melting points

The ability to access any university’s resources through Course Hero proved invaluable in my case. I was behind on Tulane coursework and actually used UCLA’s materials to help me move forward and get everything together on time.
