Theology is also bible based – Scripture is a word directly from God, a revelation about God which built a platform for us to start when engaging in the quest to really know and understand God in His fullness. Not only Bible based, but also Christ centred and Spirit led. The goal of theology is not only to know God but Christ and the Holy Spirit as well, Smith (2013). “Christ should hold a central place in the way we seek discern God’s will”, Smith (2013). We must also focus on the Holy Spirit in our theology; we need the Holy Spirit to lead us to the understanding of the divine revelation of who God is and his will, nature and purposes, Smith (2013). Theology is also Mission minded, probably one of the most crucial things to focus on. According to Smith (2013), we must zoom in on the mission of God for it includes God’s work of all time; His mission is (a) to reconcile all human beings to him (salvation history) and (b) to restore his righteous rule over creation (kingdom of God). It is also important to look at history, context, practical understanding and scientific side. We can learn from history and questions asked by people in the past. Also context needs to be understood in order to fully know what is meant with scripture portions. Practically it comes down to two questions that can be asked (a) what should we do. (b) How should we live? , Smith (2013). From a scientific point of view we know that the bible is the truth, but doesn’t necessary explain all the details, therefore it can be seen as if the science can help us form our theology around concrete findings that supports what we believe to be true, Smith (2013). After reflecting on the all the aspects of theology and the goals regarding theology I came to the realization that I only had half an understanding of what theology really is. I did realize it is a study of God, to know Him and all his ways, but I didn’t realize it had such broad categories to reflect on. I always though f I focused on God, Jesus and the Holy Spirit I would eventually come to the divine revelation of who God is in his Fullness and Glory.
