How a person conducts themselves in one aspect of their life is usually a good indicator how they will conduct themselves in all other facets, to a degree. With that in mind academic honesty is vital, especially for professionals in the healthcare industry. The National League for Nursing has core values based on caring, integrity, diversity and excellence and they believe that in order to enhance patient care and outcomes nurses need to learn and grow in an environment that values academic and professional integrity (National League for Nursing, 2012). The goal is to never start unethical behavior in the academic setting due to the potential for that negative behavior to bleed over into the professional career (Boykins, A., & Gilmore, M., 2012). By using Grammarly and Safe Assign, with the intention of keeping yourself honest, we as students can practice integrity and implement that behavior into our professional careers. Grammarly and Safe Assign are just a couple of tools available used for detecting, deterring, and preventing plagiarism in publications/assignments. By using these tools, you can model professional behavior by maintaining integrity, honesty and advocating for future mirrored professional behavior.
As students we can set the tone for our ethical foundation now by reading and researching for our assignments and writing with integrity. Nightingale herself believed that character formation and morality were most vital in the training process of nurses, as a student in an Advanced Practice Nursing degree I take great honor in modeling these professional behaviors and maintain the confidence and trust of my colleges and the people I care for.
