Discussion Question# 2 The nurse at Garrison argue that pediatric hospitals and intensive care units, in particular are different from adult hospitals and intensive care units, in particular, and that these differences should be clearly addressed in the implementation of a new clinical documentation system. Do you agree with this argument? Why or Why not? Give examples from the literature to support your views. I agree with the nuses arguments that more time should have been put in the planning for the differences of the two settings therefore, accurate preparations could have been during the implementation. Also a thorough workflow analysis should have been done to gage the potential issues many of the staff experienced. The timelime should have been based off how the staff was learning the new system and not rushing them along to implement the next system involving electronic scheduling. All this was ovwerwheling to the staff and physicians because initially that hadn’t gotten comfortable with the electronic documentation so to add something new could have led to patient safety issues. Discussion Question # 3 How might the workflow issues and concerns mentioned in this case have been detected earlier? When the Garrison physicians and nurses initially started refusing to use the system, stating it was unsafe the system support personnel should have tried to come up with a solution to the problem before the staff’s morale was negatively affected.
