do without the need of the presence of oxygen while aerobic cellular respiration the performing the processes of cellular respiration with the need of the presence of oxygen. Due to the Kreb’s Cycle, glycolysis, and the electron transport chain the whole process will make 36-38 ATP, depending on if your inner mitochondrial membrane or cristae is permeable or impermeable to the NADH because each NADH molecule gives 1 ATP and since 2 NADH molecules enter after glycolysis, 2 ATP molecules are taken

Noronha 2 Background Information Continued: away. If you break it down, anaerobic respiration will make 4 ATP molecules while aerobic cellular respiration will make 34 ATP molecules. The processes in anaerobic cell respiration are glycolysis as well as Kreb’s Cycle and the process of aerobic cell respiration is the electron transport chain. Glycolysis is the breaking down of glucose. Before this can happen, any disaccharide or polysaccharide has to break down into its monomer which is glucose. In this process, the glucose gets broken down into two three-carbon molecules known as pyruvic acid or pyruvate. After the sugars breaks down fermentation occurs. There are two kinds of fermentation, lactic acid fermentation and alcoholic fermentation. Lactic acid fermentation occurs when the pyruvic acid or pyruvate breaks down into lactate. During the process, it takes 2 NADH and 2 H + from the glycolysis process and it releases 2 NAD +. This process happens in most animals and is used when energy is needed without the presence of oxygen.

As a current student on this bumpy collegiate pathway, I stumbled upon Course Hero, where I can find study resources for nearly all my courses, get online help from tutors 24/7, and even share my old projects, papers, and lecture notes with other students.

The ability to access any university’s resources through Course Hero proved invaluable in my case. I was behind on Tulane coursework and actually used UCLA’s materials to help me move forward and get everything together on time.
