father was in and out of jail for a heroin addiction and did not talk to his son much and Cedric does not have many memories of him. One encounter Cedric remembers is the time he and his cousin were visiting his dad in jail. The whole time his dad ignored him for Cedric’s cousin. Cedric felt he was not good enough for his dad and even though he could not control how many times he talked to his dad or how his dad felt about him, he used this moment to secretly motivate him to work towards his goal (Suskind 220). Cedric showed how much he had control over his life when he got accepted and attended Brown University. The other students at his high school did not think he would be able to make it. Cedric worked every day after school for a couple of hours with one of the teachers at his school. They worked on SAT prep tests and vocabulary to help him improve his SAT scores. He also studied hard every night to make sure he had a good understanding of everything he was
