Johnson 2 country to need my death” (3.2.43-44). Brutus is willing to give up his own life whenever it will further help Rome for the greater good. Brutus takes risks, but at the end of the day, he does it all for Rome and the Roman people. That is what being honorable is all about, giving up everything and taking risks for something close to the heart. Rome means so much to Brutus, and he always wants what is best for it as a whole. Social position is a big deal to the people in any society; some people go as far as taking the highest in rank out. Brutus, in this case, is the only one out of the conspirators who doesn’t kill Caesar for personal reasons. He joins the conspirators with only honorable intentions for the public good. Brutus doesn’t have anything against Caesar, but he sees Rome going down a dark path as long as Caesar is the ruler. After putting a lot of thought into the idea of joining the conspirators and going along with the plan to kill Caesar, he states, “It must be by his death; and for my part, / I know no personal cause to spurn at him, / But for the general. He would be crown’d” (Shakespeare 2.1.10-12). Brutus doesn’t join the conspirators and kill Caesar for his own private reasons, but for the betterment of Rome. He does this for the general public, which he cares deeply about. Brutus sees that Caesar could be crowned king at any point or time, and he believes that will put a bruise on Rome as a whole.
