To understand Australian consumers’ interest in different car brands, you start by looking at the google search volume for major brand names Toyota, Honda, Holden and Hyundai. Go to Google Trends website ( ) and compare the google search volume for these 4 different car brands in Australia in the last few years. Are there any trends? From this information, what can you infer about the performance of these brands in the Australian market? (Hint: when you search for these terms on google trends, make sure that you restrict the location to “Australia”). From comparing the trends between these four major car brands, both Toyota and Hyundai has shown an increasing interest rate over time however, Holden and Honda has displayed the opposite with a declining interest rate overtime. From these trends, it can be predicted that Hyundai and Toyota are showing stronger performance than Holden and Honda in regards to the Australian car market. The most popular car in NSW is Honda, Hyundai in WA, Holden in SA and Toyota in NT. Hyundai has shown the highest popularity followed by Toyota, Holden and then Honda. As a result of this, Hyundai are showing strong and positive performance in the market as consumers prefer this car brand over the other major brands.
