even though he was a master of many forms and could stick to just one form if he wanted to but did not and instead drew from them all. The many forms he drew from were modern, ethnic, ballet, and popular which created a 20 th century movement known as theatrical jazz dance. Jack Cole also referred to this a “Urban dance.” Another thing that stood out to me about him was his looks. He was a very unusual-looking man. He had a face that you would not forget even looking at just for a glance. When reading information about him for the Jazz icons assignment I found myself reading away and including many interesting things about it compared to the other eight people I had to research as well for the jazz icon assignment. I think Cole is very important to the dance world because he forever impacted the face of theater dance by incorporating Easter ethnic movement with jazz which became Urban dance like I mentioned earlier. He formed jazz into how we view American jazz in our society today, which is very impressive that he was able to do that and keep the changeover so many years and still have people recognizing his work and is still very popular and performed all over the world. For this assignment I looked up many different performers he was part of or choreographed and it was very hard to choose my favorite. The first performance I found that was my favorite was the Ninevah Dance from Kismet in 1955 and this was very intriguing to me with how unique and different it was. In the performance there were many unique costumes and props included many dancers at these bells on them with jingled every time they moved and help create an exceptional effect. The movement incorporated in this dance was so outstanding, it left me speechless. Everything was put so well together and perfectly done down to the t. I watched this performance about 5 or 6 times to see all the detail and enjoy the amazing technique represented in this performance.
