Cost for Eco-Design process may be lower than the added CSR initiative. Stakeholder External Benefit Costs Charitable & Community Organizations Employees are encouraged to donate their time to help in charities and community organization projects[ CITATION Sam19 \l 1033 ]. This cost the company paid time for their employees who are donating their time however Samsung benefits because employee wages are tax deductible and reduce the company’s tax liability. In addition the company ends up appearing as a “ good global citizen” for doing something to help the community which also increases brand awareness and positive marketing [CITATION Lau10 \l 1033 ]. Samsung CSR & Sustainability Values alignment with Starbucks Case Like Starbucks, Samsung is trying to reach a greener market by ensuring that their ecofriendly packaging will only have recycled elements making them more environmentally sustainable[ CITATION All00 \l 1033 ]. Samsung’s goal is to cut new plastic from all their products and product packaging by the year 2030. On a positive note, they have already made efforts to update their current product packaging. At the beginning 2019 Samsung started this green movement by substituting new plastic product packaging with recycled, bio-based plastic and paper packaging for, mobile devices, mobile accessories, tablets, and home appliances (Samsung Electronics, 2019). Starbucks did something similar in the, “Report of the Starbucks Coffee Company/ Alliance for Environmental Innovation Joint Task Force” where the company opted for a paper sleeve and cup, made of recycled components in order to be more environmentally sustainable and create more waste [ CITATION All00 \l 1033 ]. The job of removing plastic completely from all product packaging will be challenging and Samsung has already set forth a team which, includes, designers, research, and development, purchasing, marketing and quality control, to begin working on this notion. using paper-based material for their entire product packaging and their focus is to address resource depletion and plastic waste by using recycled resources and minimizing waste even if it entails increasing costs. Starting 2020 they will only use materials that certified by Forest
