1.
Which tubing increased the most in volume? Why?
The tubing size increased the most in the 30% solution. The volume increased because
the solute concentrate was the highest. The higher the solute concentrate caused the
water to try to reach equilibrium. The lower concentration bags tried to reach equilibrium
slower. The yellow band colored bag increased the most in volume because the solution
inside had a greater concentration of sucrose than Beaker #2. The solution of the yellow
band colored bag was hypotonic and the water moved into the bag from the solution of
the beaker at the fastest rate.
2.
What does this tell you about the relative tonicity between the contents of the tubing and
the solution in the beaker?
Diffusion and Osmosis

The solution in the yellow banded tube was hypotonic compared to the solution in
Beaker #2. This indicates that the water from the solution outside of the bag moved
through the semipermeable membrane to get the higher concentrated solution inside the
bag.
