Chemical names are not always reliable because there could be many variations and they may be known by different names. This is why SDS Sheets for chemical products are important because they provide the chemical formulation and the registry number. Clorox bleach is also known as Sodium Hypochlorite and the chemical formulation is NaClO (The Clorox Company, 2015). Vinegar is also known as Dilute Acetic Acid and the chemical formulation is CH3COOH (The Clorox Company, 2015). Being able to read the chemical identifier and formulation is key to understanding the type of chemical you are working with. The cap should always be securely tight and proper safe work practices should be used when handling bleach to avoid skin and eye contact. Also, Clorox bleach is incompatible with other cleaners such as rust removers, acids, ammonia, toilet bowl cleaners and it is recommended that bleach not be stored with these cleaning agents (The Clorox Company, 2015).
