Reinstatement from Dismissal:After a studenthas been academically dismissed from Illinois StateUniversity and has not been enrolled at Illinois Statefor at least one calendar year, a student may petitionfor reinstatement. Petitioning to return to IllinoisState involves the following: (1) meeting university-wide readmission requirements and deadlines; and(2) being reinstated by the University ReinstatementCommittee. Application procedures, reinstatementinformation and deadlines can be found at the Officeof Enrollment Management and Academic ServicesWeb site at . Reinstated studentsare required to participate in Project Success -- a pro-gram designed to assist students in returning toAcademic Good Standing. If a student attends any other higher educationalinstitution after dismissal from Illinois State, he orshe must indicate such attendance on the readmis-sion application and supply an official transcriptfrom the other school(s). Students must haveearned a C average (2.00/4.00) or higher for allcourse work taken since last attending Illinois Stateand have been in good academic standing at the lastinstitution attended as a full- or part-time student.Repeated failures to do satisfactory work mayresult in permanent exclusion from the University.New Start Policy:Students who leave IllinoisState in a degree program with less than a 2.00cumulative grade-point average (GPA) may be con-sidered for readmission through the New StartPolicy. Applicants admitted through this policy willbegin with a new cumulative GPA calculated fromthe point of their reentry.62Academic Policies and Practices
Students may be considered for readmissionthrough the New Start Policy after being away fromthe University for one full year (Example: A stu-dent who last attended the University the Fall 2005term cannot reenroll through the New Start Policyuntil the Spring 2007 term.) and only when therequirements of one of the following New Start cat-egories are met:1.Non-Traditional Student Option:FormerIllinois State students at least 25 years of agemay be considered for readmission throughthis option. If they have attended any college(including Illinois State) in the three calendaryears preceding re-enrollment at IllinoisState, they must have achieved at least a 2.50GPA for that college work. Transfer creditwill be evaluated and appropriately awarded. 2.Veterans’ Option:Students who complete atleast a one-year tour of duty and present adischarge for reasons other than dishonor-able, and whose first attendance at a collegeor university after discharge is at IllinoisState, may be considered for readmissionthrough this option.3.Community College Transfer Option:Former Illinois State students who earned 60or fewer hours at Illinois State prior toenrolling at a community college and who sub-sequently earn at least 24 hours after beingaway for one full year and earn a currentlyaccepted associate degree (A.A. or A.S.) froma community college with at least a 2.50 GPA
