• “The firm selects mid to senior level associates for an intensive week long ‘Trial Academy’ on an annual basis. The firm devotes a lot of resources into formal training. Informal training and mentoring can use some work, especially for more junior associates.” • “The formal mentoring and training programs are present, but serve more as a starting point. The training and mentoring programs that have been most valuable to me have been through informal experiences.” • “I work in a smaller office. Thus, while the formal training opportunities are ample, I have the benefit of getting a substantial amount of personal mentoring and informal, on-the-job training.” Career Outlook • “Promotion to partner is realistic, though difficult; the partnership runway is particularly long and difficult in some practice groups. The firm is very proactive helping people transition to in-house roles, regularly sending a newsletter of in-house openings.” • “The firm seems to be more conservative than others about elevating associates to partner, although that may be good for the financial stability of the firm. We have some of counsel, but not many. Associates who want to leave seem to have no problem finding opportunities at other firms, clerkships, or corporate-type positions.” • “Partnership is not realistic for the vast majority of associates who want to become partner. But the firm is flexible about offering positions for senior associates to move into to stay at the firm after inevitably being passed over for partner.” • “The firm has been rapidly expanding, but has been doing so in a fiscally conservative manner. Accordingly, the firm’s finances are stable. However, cultural changes and a cost- cutting focus by firm management have led to significant associate attrition. Better attention to associate retention is important to the firm’s long-term standing. Partnership track is extremely long and difficult. Rising partners need to be connected within the firm, in hot practice areas or to generate significant business. Little room for service partners in the next generation.” Pro Bono Commitment • “There is no cap on pro bono hours and the firm counts all pro bono hours 1:1 as billable hours. Further, the firm requires all associates to bill 20 pro bono hours per year.” • “Morgan Lewis has an exceptional commitment to pro bono work. Currently, I am representing a young mother and her two children in seeking asylum. I also have a case representing a survivor from sexual assault. My work is incredibly fulfilling and gives me the opportunity to develop other skills, such as negotiation, investigation, and court room experience. I will be the primary attorney conducting the asylum hearing later this summer, including opening and closing statements and questions of witnesses.” • “Pro bono is a big deal at MLB. The quality of pro bono work is great (especially the number of corporate opportunities)

The ability to access any university’s resources through Course Hero proved invaluable in my case. I was behind on Tulane coursework and actually used UCLA’s materials to help me move forward and get everything together on time.
