CORAL REEFS 3 The fishing industry in various parts of the world is dependent on coral reefs, because juvenile fish and other fish spawns live in them before going into the open sea. The coral reefs study is crucial for the researchers and scientists to get clear as well as scientifically testable data about the events of climate for past million years. Taking the example of Australia: the amount of $105 billion is generated every year by “The Great Barrier Reef” with regards to tourism and fishing [Que18] The Threats faced by Coral Reefs There are various threats faced by the coral reefs, and here three more significant threats are going to be discussed with relevant details. Threat from Global Warming: The first most significant threat faced by coral reefs is coming from the global warming and climate change. The first reason behind this threat is rising temperature of earth and water due to rising amount of carbon dioxide being sent in the environment. The second reason behind this threat is increased level of oceans acidification due to burning high amount of fossil fuels, which also produce pollution and play its part in global warming. Threat from Water Pollution: The water pollution is the second most significant threat to the coral reefs as water pollution and high temperatures play their part on coral bleaching. The first reason for this water pollution is the waste, being disposed off in the sea water, and second reason for this threat is eroded oil & gas, agricultural fertilizers, and discharge of sewage. Threat from Fishing Practices: The humans are also playing their part in destroying the coral reefs. For instance, over fishing practice is a threat to coral reefs as they get so much energy from these fishes. In some parts, fishing is done through dynamite procedure, which destroys the coral reefs, and in some other parts they use cyanide in the water for fishing [Def18]

The ability to access any university’s resources through Course Hero proved invaluable in my case. I was behind on Tulane coursework and actually used UCLA’s materials to help me move forward and get everything together on time.
