experiment, we discuss and incorporate the use of a centrifuge. Using a centrifuge we were able
to separate the mixture into its two components, the liquid part and the solid part which settled
on the bottom. Another principle that is discussed in this experiment is the concept of color and
how that distinct colors can indicate a reaction and the formation of various precipitates.

Procedure:
After gathering the necessary materials to carry out the experiment such as various
chemicals, test tubes, and beaker, we were able to set up the workplace. In this experiment we
learned how to operate a centrifuge and how it would help us in this experiment. First we took
a known mixture and mixed it with a couple drops of 1M Thioacetanide to get a black
precipitate.
Using this we put it into the centrifuge machine which allowed the separation of
the liquid and solid component of the mixture. We then heated the test tube and centrifuged
the solution to separate the mixture once again. After that we added 20 drops of 3M KOH and
another drop of thioacetanide. After we centrifuged it, we added 6MHCl to the filtrate and 5
drops of thioacetanide. After that, we tested the discarded liquid in order to get some residue
