One such case occurred in June 2011. Brazilian hackers launched a massive spam and fishing campaign where users were sent fake emails with links that took them to malicious domains which created a major problem for Amazon Web Services. Through those domains attackers installed various files on victims machines. One of the tools that they installed acted as a root kit which is a malicious software that boots up every time the user restarts the computer. Other malicious software that were installed during the attack tried to collect all the login credentials for nine Brazilian bank accounts, steal digital certificates from e- tokens stored in the computer and collect unique information about the computer itself that is used by the banks to authenticate the login process.
