Ensure balances are consistent - Procedures to reconcile to control reports e.g. general ledger A/R account reconciled to accounts receivable subsidiary ledger - External data reconciliation User review of output Data transmission controls Availability controls: - Preventative maintenance - Fault tolerance- use of redundant components - Data center location and design- raised floor, fire suppression, air conditioning, uninterruptible power supply- UPS, surge protection - Patch management and antivirus software - Backup procedures- incremental (copies only items that have changes since last partial backup) and differential (copies all changes made since last backup) - Disaster recovery plan (DRP)- procedures to restore organisations IT function- cold site, hot site - Business continuity plan (BCP)- how to resume all operations not just IT Processing integrity (types of checks, batch processing) Data entry controls Field check – data in fields are proper type e.g. password field Sign check – data has appropriate signs (+ve/-ve) e.g. qly order should never be negative Limit check – whether the value goes beyond fixed value- tests numerical amount against a fixed value Range check – whether the value is in-between the minimum and maximum values- tests numerical amounts against and upper and lower limit Size check- input data fits into the field Completeness check- verifies that all required data is entered Validity check- compares data from transaction file to master file to verify existence Reasonableness test- correctness of logical relationship between 2 data items 9overtime hours=0 for someone that hasn’t worked max hours) Check digit- recalculating check digit to verify that data entry error hasn’t been made E.g. original number 9749 Calculation of check digit- multiply each number by different weighting i.e. 9x1 + 7x2 + … = 71

Divide total by 11- remainder is the check digit 71/11= 6 remainder 5 New number is 97495 (where 5 is the check digit) Batch processing: Sequence check – batches in proper numerical or alphabetical sequence Batch totals – summarise numeric values for each batch (financial total, hash total, record count) Closed-loop verification – checks accuracy of input data by using it to retrieve and display other related information e.g.) customer account number must retrieve customer name Prompting- system prompts you for input (online completeness check) Processing control: - Data matching- multiple data values must match before processing occurs - File labels- ensure correct and most current file is being updated - Batch total recalculation- compare calculated batch total after processing to input totals - Cross footing and zero balance tests- compute totals using multiple methods to ensure the same results. Verifies accuracy by comparing 2 alternative ways of calculating (in spreadsheets either by summing a column of row/column totals) a zero balance test (payroll clearing account is debited for the total gross pay of all employees in a particular period. It is then credited for the amount of all labour cost

As a current student on this bumpy collegiate pathway, I stumbled upon Course Hero, where I can find study resources for nearly all my courses, get online help from tutors 24/7, and even share my old projects, papers, and lecture notes with other students.

The ability to access any university’s resources through Course Hero proved invaluable in my case. I was behind on Tulane coursework and actually used UCLA’s materials to help me move forward and get everything together on time.
