Thenthey discuss similarities and differences.b.Selecting the best option in a category: Bring flyers of different hotels, schools, tourist packages, etc. Havethe students read the information and then choose the best taking into account similarities and differences inprice, quality, location, activities, etc.c.Describing what you’re wearing: This activity can be used to practice colours, patterns, sizes and shapes:Students describe what they are wearing in detail including the exact colour, pattern, shape and size of theitems of clothing. This is also a good activity to practise adding the suffix –ish to colours or shapes: agreenish dress. They should deliberately make a mistake and see if the rest of the class / group catch it.d.Describing a room or your ideal house: An activity to practise adjectives denoting styles, origin,characteristics as well as size, shape and patterns.e.Advertising a product: This could be done as a group project. Students choose a product and use persuasivelanguage to advertise it.For developing speaking and listening skills, the activity could be transformed intoa TV or radio commercial.f.Writing descriptive paragraphs at a higher level: This activity develops the students’ creative writing andvocabulary development. Provide the students with a descriptive paragraph from any book, magazine or evenan ESL book. First, have the students identify the adjectives in the text. Then ask the students to make a listof synonyms using a thesaurus. Finally, ask the students to use their creativity and rewrite the paragraphusing the best synonyms they could think of. To make this activity more interactive and integrate it withlistening and speaking skills have the students work cooperatively in small groups.
