According to The Sentinel Watch, (year) “18% of new RNs resign from their first nursing job during the first year- and a third leave within two years.” New graduates experiencing high levels of stress usually conclude that they have made the wrong career choice. According to recent reports, nursing school deans have reported their nursing graduates are 90% ready for real - life application of their education , but hospital leaders report that number is closer to 10. The disparity in these numbers also contributes to the issue as it introduces the problem of inadequate nurses in the workforce. In regards to In regard to issue from the aspect of the schools, there are simply not enough people enrolling in nursing schools to meet the demand of the nurses needed I the workforce. In

CAPSTONE PROJECT 3 addition to this, there is also a shortage of nursing school faculty which is preventing the expansion of nursing school programs. The professors are not available to allow for an enrollment rate that could match the demand of nurses needed to overcome the shortage. All these factors have come together to create the problem that exists in the profession today. T In order t o offset the effects of these factors, there are many long ter1qqm and short-term fixes that have to be considered.
