KEPENTINGAN MOTIVASI DALAM ORGANISASI 1) Individu akan sentiasa berminat untuk mengejar kejayaan ~Menurut Artkinson 1965 apabila individu mula menghadapi situasi mengejar sesuatu perkara terdapat dua jenis motivasi yang bertentangan akan timbul. Iaitu motivasi mengejar kejayaan dan motivasi mengelak kejayaan. 2) Wujudnya penumpuan dan perhatian ~ Individu akan lebih memberi sepenuh perhatian terhadap apa yang dilakukan bukan kerana terpaksa. Mereka yang bermotivasi akan melakukan dengan penuh semangat tanpa disuruh atau diarahkan oleh majikan. 3) Mewujudkan penilaian yang sihat dan positif dalam kalangan individu ~Motivasi menjadi asas kepada tenaga pengerak individu untuk bekerja dan mencipta suasana persaingan yang positif di tempat kerja. 4) Membina keyakinan diri ~Kebolehan individu mengatasi masalah dalam hidup. KELEBIHAN DAN KELEMAHAN MOTIVASI KELEBIHAN Boleh menghasilkan pekerja yang lebih produktif. Pekerja yang bermotivasi tinggi dan dimotivasikan dengan cara yang betul oleh pengurusnya akan menunjukkan produktiviti yang lebih daripada pekerja yang mempunyai motivasi yang rendah. Motivasi yang tinggi akan membawa kepada tumpuan kepada kualiti. Pekerja yang bermotivasi tinggi akan menitik beratkan kualiti atau mutu kerja yang terbaik. Ini kerana mereka mengharapkan kebaikan serta keuntungan yang maksimum kepada organisasi dan diri mereka sendiri. Motivasi juga akan membawa kepada penghasilan alternatif yang lebih baik. Apabila seseorang pekerja mempunyai motivasi yang tinggi, dia akan sentiasa mencari alternatif terbaik untuk melakukan kerjanya supaya produktiviti dan kualiti dapat ditingkatkan. 52

WHAT IS THE PURPOSE OF A PERFORMANCE APPRAISAL? Performance appraisals can be important tools to give employees feedback and aid in their development. Yet feedback is only one reason why companies perform appraisals. In many companies, appraisals are used to distribute rewards such as bonuses, annual pay raises, and promotions. They may also be used to document termination of employees. Research shows that performance appraisals tend to be viewed as more effective when companies tie them to reward decisions and to terminate lower performers 53

WHAT IS THE PURPOSE OF A PERFORMANCE APPRAISAL? This is not surprising in light of motivation theories such as reinforcement theory, which indicates that behavior that is rewarded is repeated. Tying appraisal results to rewards may lead to the perception that performance is rewarded. However, if performance appraisal ratings are not accurate, it is possible for appraisals to be a major cause of reward unfairness.
