2. Study the images of the seedlings of each of the true-breeding parental lines, gl1 and gfp1, taken under the dissecting microscope. Pay close attention to the first true leaves. Note your observations below. Homozygous for gl1 Homozygous for gfp1 Observations: The homozygous seedling for gfp1 has trichomes and single sprouts of leaves whereas the homozygous seedling for gl1 is glabrous and branches off into two leaves symmetrically. 3. Observe photographs of plates of seedlings taken under royal blue light illumination a darkened room. These images were taken through green filter goggles using only the blue light for illumination. Under this light, plants expressing gfp are visible in good detail and appear green. Plants not expressing gpf appear only as indistinct dark shapes. (You may see some back-scatter from the black surface under the plants.) Thus, if you can see it clearly, a seedling is glowing. The gfp may be more noticeable in some parts of the seedling than in others. 2
