G LOMERULAR F ILTRATION A process in which water and some small solutes in the blood plasma pass from glomerular capillary into the capsular space (urinary space). Must pass through filtration membrane: 1. The fenestrated endothelium of the capillary 2. The basement membrane: Will exclude molecules larder the 8nm. Made of proteoglycan gel- it has a negative charge. 3. Filtration slits: Podocytes have pedicels that interdigitate with each other. The filtration slits are also negatively charged- repelling proteins and other solutes with negative charges. 29
