It is often done to monitor learners while they are doing tasks in the classroom. The value of informal assessment lies in their proactive nature, as they enable a teacher to identify possible learning difficulties or problems with work done in the classroom. This enables teacher to provide additional support to individuals learners or to explain some sections of the work again. 3.1.4 Recording the findings of learner’s performance is a process in which the teacher documents the level of a learner’s performance. In South African schools, this should indicate the progress towards the achievement as stipulated in the Curriculum and Assessment Policy Statements of all subjects listed in the National Curriculum Statement Grades R - 12. Records of learner performance should provide evidence of the learner’s conceptual progression within a grade and his or her readiness to progress/promoted to the next grade. 3.1.5 Reporting the learners’ performance to the learner and the parents is a process of communicating learner performance to learners, parents, schools and the other stakeholders such as the employers, tertiary institutions, etc. Learner performance can be reported in a number of ways. This include report cards, phone calls etc. The main purpose of reporting is to: provide learners with regular feedback, this feedback should be developmental and inform parents/guardians on the progress of the individual learner; give information to schools and districts or regional offices on the current level of performance of learners. 3.1.6 Teachers’ accountability of the learner’ performance to stakeholders must account for the learner’s performance to the stakeholders each term explaining which measures he/she took to improve the learner’s performance as it is every teacher work to influence and encourage learners to work to their best of their abilities. Teachers accountability is aimed at encouraging teachers and administrators to innovate and to design effective curricular and instructional programs that will improve learner’s performance
