schedule of the nurses and surgeries taking place and can also have some input on what dates and times work for all surgical staff to be able to be present. The nurse educator can set up online education with a deadline for completion. The second step that should be done would be to sit down with the staff and introduce the new protocol. This needs to be presented in the fashion that it is for patient safety to help to prevent the spread of infection. It must be also be presented as not an option, but as a must and that everyone participate. It should also be stressed that this is a 100% of participation on everyone’s part. The plan will be revealed to the entire staff, what is expected of them, and also the timeline of events for the new protocol. 8. Implementation As I had stated previously, my proposed solution can be implemented by making a set of guidelines and setting them into place. The plan for this proposal will consist of a computer education as well as a simulation training class that includes all of the surgical staff. First, a computer training that includes information of each staff members role, what aseptic technique is, and sterile and non-sterile areas. The next portion of the implementation would be a simulation training class that would be mandatory. This would be done in a couple of sessions that would last about an hour each time. During these sessions an open forum would also be part of the teaching. The Nurse Educator would have observed a surgery and evaluated any problems or potential problems that could have incurred and bring them up in the open forum. Then the entire staff would be able to give their input on where the problem started to break down and what could be done in the future to prevent that from happening again. Also the

This would also allow the team to learn more about each other and help each other work better today to prevent any further problems. B. Roles 1. Scientist The role of scientist is to gather and analyze data. In this case the scientist is gather data on surgical site infections and analyzing the where, why, and when these breaks are happening. This will also include providing scientific evidence associated with breaks in sterile and aseptic technique to provide quality of care and safety to the patients. 2. Detective The detective maintains the role of investigating. This investigation includes assessing the OR when in use and when not in use. The detective seeks out the staff and assessing them while they work to see where aseptic technique or sterile field has been violated. They also talk to the staff to find out what they feel can be done to maintain aseptic technique and prevent surgical site infections.

The ability to access any university’s resources through Course Hero proved invaluable in my case. I was behind on Tulane coursework and actually used UCLA’s materials to help me move forward and get everything together on time.
