281 Vault Guide to the Top 100 Law Firms, 2018 Edition AKIN GUMP STRAUSS HAUER & FELD LLP THE SCOOP Founded in Texas in 1945, Akin Gump Strauss Hauer & Feld LLP has grown to become one of the world’s largest law firms, with over 900 lawyers practicing across a vast array of practices in 20 offices around the globe. Long a force in national politics (and even longer a preeminent presence in the Lone Star State), the firm has built a powerful lobbying practice that’s the largest in the country by revenue. Beyond lobbying and policy work, the firm focuses on a wide range of practices and industries, such as communications, corporate and M&A, cybersecurity, energy, environmental, financial restructuring, global project finance, health care, international trade, investment funds, IP, labor, litigation, real estate and tax, trade, and policy and regulation. Beltway Bigwigs The Akin Gump story begins in 1945, when former FBI agents Richard Gump and Robert Strauss started up a small legal practice in post-war Dallas. Strauss, whose political involvement dated back to Lyndon Johnson’s first congressional campaign, went on to become chair of the Democratic National Committee and chaired Jimmy Carter’s successful presidential campaign in 1976. Carter returned the favor by appointing Strauss to a cabinet position as Special Trade Representative and hired him as a personal representative in the Middle East peace negotiations. Strauss also worked in George H.W. Bush’s administration, serving as Ambassador to the Soviet Union.

As a current student on this bumpy collegiate pathway, I stumbled upon Course Hero, where I can find study resources for nearly all my courses, get online help from tutors 24/7, and even share my old projects, papers, and lecture notes with other students.

The ability to access any university’s resources through Course Hero proved invaluable in my case. I was behind on Tulane coursework and actually used UCLA’s materials to help me move forward and get everything together on time.
