Braxton Hicks contractions - Irregular, painless contractions of the uterus - there is no change of the cervix - Felt about 4th month of pregnancy. - Become uncomfortable as pregnancy advance and may be confuse with true labor contractions. - “False labor” Cervical Goodell’s sign: Softening of the cervix that occurs during the second month of pregnancy Operculum/Mucus plug: A collection of thick mucus that blocks the cervical canal during pregnancy. Vaginal Chadwick’s sign: blue-purple discoloration of the cervix caused by increased vascularization of the uterus during pregnancy. Vaginal secretions are increased (leukorrhea) due to estrogen - Thick, white and acidic (pH 3.5-6.0) to prevent bacterial infection. - The pregnant woman is more susceptible to candida infection Ovaries Ovum production ceases Corpus luteum persists and secretes hormones until weeks 6-8
