authentic leader builds a strong reputation that attracts high-performing people. Again, I think of religious leaders and it would be nice if we had some authentic leadership in our politicians. Part D Charismatic leadership is considered to be a double- edged sword that requires careful monitoring to avert abuse. This statement suggests that charismatic leadership could be corrupt or decent in relation to its leaders. Given the charismatic leaders’ strong emotional hold on followers, they can abuse that power easily and apply it toward inappropriate ends. Additionally charismatic leaders can also be powerful agents of change, but an equally powerful obstacle to change. To prevent abuse leaders need to avoid becoming self- serving and unrealistic by focusing on organizational goals instead of personal ones. Another way to prevent abuse is to accept criticism. Some leaders abuse power by opposing the views of their followers and engage in one way communication. The gifts of a charismatic leader are the same ones that leads a person to engage in ethical or unethical behaviour, hence the term double edged sword.
