For his help, Wilson appointed Bryan as his Secretary of State, despite his inexperience in diplomacy. Even though he was inexperienced for the position, Bryanhad a major accomplishment in negotiating peace treaties. His international proposal suggested a year to “cool-off” during a dispute so it could be investigated b an international commision.
