COG stood for Council of Government. A national meeting in 1960 was held for the leaders of the COG. President Dwight Eisenhower had a new effort launched to help different government understand how they can address the same common concerns in the 1950’s. All over the country regional planning commissions and 600 councils of government were in action in the mid – 1970’s. President Conrad Fowler had warned about giving to much authority and power to regional bodies. When the Second World War had ended our soldiers returned from overseas, prosperity returned to our country. Prior to world war two most of the population lived in cities. In 1968 president Nixon was elected president of the United States of America. When the act of 1972 was passed Nixon hailed it as the beginning of “a new American Revolution.” America’s first national park was founded by Theodore Roosevelt in Yellowstone in the year of 1872. At the end of the 1990s the government was a highly flexible and robust level of government. By: Katelin Strutt
