Another topic that is highly controversial is whether late term abortion should be legal. Antony Barone Kolenc is a professor of constitutional law at the U.S. Air Force Academy once said, “Without the ban on late term abortion, the medical profession is on a slippery slope that makes it more acceptable to devalue human life.” In 1992 partial-birth abortion was brought to public attention. Many united to speak on behalf of the unborn when they discovered the facts of late term abortion. The movement took shape to ban the procedure. Kelenc said concerning the seminar, “Overnight, the procedure was tagged as the most inhumane method of abortion, causing severe pain to an unborn child who is already in the process of a live birth. The method is commonly compared to infanticide, because the child is almost entirely delivered before the abortion doctor brutally ends his or her life. This is done by crushing the child’s skull just moments before the first breath…” Thankfully only one percent of abortions in the United States are at or after 21 weeks.

As you can see, every part of abortion is very debatable and strikes every person differently. I understand that there are certain cases that have different reasons behind the abortion; such as rape, severe birth defects that would cause the baby to not survive past birth, and when the pregnancy is threatening the mother’s life. But today as I’ve answered the questions of when human life begins, what the opposing sides believe, and informed you on the violent act of late term abortion, I hope you now have a better understanding of why abortion is unethical and that you never accept this as an option in your life.

According to China Daily Newspaper, Chinese abortion rates are out of control, reporting 13 million abortions to every 20 million births. That is over 33% of all pregnancies being terminated in abortion. That ranks the country as #1 on the charts for the number of abortions in the world a year. After much research, I understand that there are laws in China limiting the number of children born to a family. But today I’d like to explain to you how we could dramatically cut down on these rates by increasing China’s sex education, how we could balance the number of males to females again, and the harms of forced abortion. Abortion is unethical and should not be acceptable in our society today. To start off, the One-Child Policy is part of the Family Planning Policy that came about in 1978 and is still in effect today. Obviously part of these abortions are caused from fear from the law. But according to BBC news, “ Young single women are most likely to have abortions in a country where there are 20 million births each year. Most of these abortions occur in single 20-29 year olds.” The reason, China concludes, is the lack of sex-education. “Sex education needs to be strengthened, with universities and our society giving more guidance," Li Ying, a professor at Peking University said. So why not educate the youth? Give them the knowledge they need to

The ability to access any university’s resources through Course Hero proved invaluable in my case. I was behind on Tulane coursework and actually used UCLA’s materials to help me move forward and get everything together on time.
