Fall 2019 Drawing Minor
Majors/ Minors Fair Date: September 27 Time: 11:00 am -4:00pm Description: Freshmen students are invited to stop by the Drawing Minor booth to hear from Foundation faculty about why this Minor is a great option, supporting programs in all the Majors. Gesture Jam Date: October 25 Location: SCAD Student Center (lobby) Time: Noon-2:30pm Description: Jams are upbeat, vibrant, informal events where students from all years and majors practice and learn about gesture with a focus developing confidence and sketch drawing speed, working in sketchbooks with varied media (or digitally on tablets), drawing clothed life-models using gesture approaches and techniques. Jams help students prepare for professional design careers where quick-sketch methods are used in research processes (in Fashion, Animation, Sequential Art, Architecture, Industrial Design, Film, Illustration, Painting, Interior design, etc.). SCAD faculty from different majors’ guest-host each Jam, demonstrating how gesture methods are applied in their design area, encouraging students to think outside the box, and develop their own personal sketchbook practice! Henry Dean ([email protected]) Drawing Minor Ice Cream Social Date: October 5 Location: O House Ballroom Time: 2:00-3:00pm Description: This event supports freshmen students taking Foundation Studies courses, providing information as to why they might choose to enroll in the Drawing Minor, and/or take drawing elective courses. Faculty who teach drawing elective courses will be on hand to share information and knowledge about drawing elective courses, discussing ways each course allows students to further develop their drawing abilities. Leopold’s ice cream will help inspire free-flowing discussions between freshmen students—about individual expression, contemporary artistic strategies, and everything in-between! Drawing Ballet, with Moscow Ballet: Week 2 “Drawing Ballet” Gesture Jam Date: Friday, September 20 Location : SCAD MoA/ auditorium Time: 2:00 - 4:30 pm.
Description: Open to all SCAD students. Sketch iconic performance art poses created by Moscow Ballet’s audition director/ soloist danseur Mykhailo Shcherbakov. Practice techniques and new gesture methods. Learn from guest-host SCAD faculty from across majors. Draw in sketchbooks with pencils, pen, or on tablets. Sponsored by the Drawing Minor.
