sexualities and gender identities, but it is also a more commonly known acronym worldwide. Bachelet had said, ”The struggle for the rights of LGBTI people is a core part of the human rights struggle.” (Bachelet). Of course, this statement is very true and it is very much a struggle for the community, but some people might not know what “LGBTI” is, or at least what the “I” stands for without looking it up. It would be much easier to use the more commonly known “LGBTQ+” as more people would understand

Bohn 3 what she meant right away, and still be able to mention people who are Intersex later in her speech as that is a community covered by the plus. People in the LGBTQ+ community should be respected and treated like an equal, they should be able to speak up about crimes against them without being shut down, and they should be able to live their lives fearlessly. This speech is useful for anyone who needs to see the truth of what it is like around the world for people with different identities and orientations. Not only does this speech give numbers on how many countries still punish people in the community, but it also pushes for a change and a good change at that. Positivity for the LGBTQ+ community is important and always will be as long as people stick together and stand up for each other, maybe equality can be an attainable goal.
