Professional practices and scholarly ethics go hand in hand together. As a healthcare professional, my patients expect me to provide outstanding care, and to not take short cuts. They rely on me to do my due diligence when taking care of them. This is similar to scholarly ethics. Plagiarism, cheating on tests, and asking other students for their work is not ethical. Doing so not only hurts yourself but also the people you could potentially be taking care of. The nursing code of ethics help nurses navigate through difficult situations (Nursing World, 2019). It is the duty of the nurse to fully understand the disease process and how to effectively monitor their patients. I know I would feel cheated if I went to see a Nurse Practitioner who did not have academic integrity throughout their schooling. References MIT (2019). A cademic Integrity at MIT. PART 2: Strategies for Maintaining Integrity of Work Expand on your thoughts from Part 1 by: Identifying and describing strategies you intend to pursue to maintain integrity and ethics of your 1) academic work while a student of the MSN program and 2) professional work as a nurse throughout your career. Include a review of resources and approaches you propose to use as a student and a professional. In order to maintain academic integrity, I plan on using the Walden Writing Center as much as possible, so that I can learn APA format and properly cite sources. Giving credit where to sources that are not my own is imperative to academic integrity. It is easy to make mistakes, especially when writing a long paper. That is why learning correct APA formatting is so important. I also plan on using my local library when researching topics or any academic questions I may have. Holding myself accountable by reaching out to other students and faculty will help me maintain honesty throughout this MSN program. If I start to feel overwhelmed with my school work, I will look for guidance from my course instructor and also my academic advisor. As a nurse, it is easy to get frustrated with your patients and/or co-workers. I plan on maintaining a code of ethics by knowing my limits and asking for help when needed. Burnout among nurses has been prevalent across the country. I have found that time management and utilizing my resources have helped me avoid this while also maintaining integrity. I also plan on joining the Missouri Nurses Association so that I can expand my nursing circle and gain more contacts. They offer monthly meetings that cover a variety of healthcare topics plus so much more. Surrounding myself with other positive nurses will help me maintain professional integrity at work.
