A statistic is a numerical measurement describing some characteristics of a sample. An example of a Parameter would be that there are exactly 200 male cheetahs in separate coalitions in East Africa, 5% of those males have a genetic variation making them King Cheetahs. This is a parameter because it is the entire population. An example of a statistic would be that the Cheetah Conservation Fund sampled 50 of the male cheetahs in East Africa and 25 of them suffered from a genetic marker predisposing them to feline disease. 50% of all cheetahs share this genetic marker, would be a statistic because it is only a sample of the entire population. DQ1.3 What is the importance of statistics in your work or schooling? How do you use statistics? How are you a statistic? Statistics in my field of work is very important, we wouldn’t have a way to judge or anticipate how many animals in a specific species inhabit a certain area if we didn’t have a statistical analysis of the areas. We use statistics to calculate a lot of information in my field. From how many male cheetahs live in a specific region to how many cheetahs have more than a 1% genetic variation. Statistics help conservationist to be able to calculate a population of cheetahs for a

### What students are saying

• As a current student on this bumpy collegiate pathway, I stumbled upon Course Hero, where I can find study resources for nearly all my courses, get online help from tutors 24/7, and even share my old projects, papers, and lecture notes with other students.

Kiran Temple University Fox School of Business ‘17, Course Hero Intern

• I cannot even describe how much Course Hero helped me this summer. It’s truly become something I can always rely on and help me. In the end, I was not only able to survive summer classes, but I was able to thrive thanks to Course Hero.

Dana University of Pennsylvania ‘17, Course Hero Intern

• The ability to access any university’s resources through Course Hero proved invaluable in my case. I was behind on Tulane coursework and actually used UCLA’s materials to help me move forward and get everything together on time.
