ACADEMIC RESOURCE: ACADEMIC ADVISOR My academic advisor has been my first line of defense on getting on a good start with my career advancement at Walden University (Laureate Education, Inc (2018B). I have been in close consultation with my advisor on ways of staying in track with my studies and course enrollment. We continue to discuss at length meaningful plans that are compatible with my life goals. I intend to be in regular contact with my advisor to discuss my grades, plan for the next semesters and guidance on the resources available to me by the school. ACADEMIC STRATEGY: USING AVAILABLE RESOURCES
Several resources are available for students at Walden University. The faculty, library, writing center and scholarly databases are some of the resources that I will use during the MSN program (Laureate Education, Inc (2018B). These resources are reliable, accurate and valid for use by students when conducting research, writing assignments, writing an academic paper and for studying. Many students have been noted to underutilize these resources, therefore ACADEMIC RESOURCE: PEER LEARNING Peer learning offers students the opportunity to learn from each other (Laureate Education, Inc (2018B). Forming study groups with those in your class help students support and encourage each other. It is a way of students moving beyond independent to interdependent learning. I have connected to some peers through the Walden University Facebook group and I will use the peer group to address academic and personal concerns while in the MSN program. PROFESSIONAL STRATEGY: PLANNING TOOLS To be successful professional, one needs to have a planning tool (Laureate Education, Inc (2018A). Having a calendar as a planning tool enables one to allocate time for activities and mark work deadlines. Planning tools merges a professional’s work life and personal life to ensure a smooth transition and adequate time for all aspects of life. Planning tools also act as a reference point to guide a professional who is multitasking. As a professional. I have a master calendar that contains my work schedule, school schedule and deadlines, family time and a couple of blank spots where I can use to
accommodate some unseen circumstances. I believe that failing to plan is planning to fail. PROFESSIONAL STRATEGY: TIME MANAGEMENT SKILLS This is one of the tools a professional need in his/her tool box to get the work done (Laureate Education, Inc (2018A). Time management skills is a technique for using time more effectively. I do organize my professional and personal tasks by prioritizing my workload and avoiding derailment. Setting goals and breaking them down into chunks makes it easier to progress towards achieving them. Delegation of duties to your team ensures that a task is accomplished efficiently in the least time possible. It is important to carefully hire your team and trust them to get the work done. We all have 24 hours in a day and time management skills will determine how much one will achieve in comparison to another.
