Lab 7 Page 19 Citrate (Page 51) “Can this Bacterium use Citrate as its sole Carbon and Energy Source?” You inoculated a Redwoods Green Citrate Slant with your Gram Negative, Oxidase Negative Bacteria and incubated these Slants at 37°C for at least 48 Hours. • Citrate Positive (Enterobacter ) The Bacterium can use the provided Sodium Citrate. This means it will grow. And if it can grow, it will use the Ammonia Salt as a Nitrogen Source and in so doing, will break it down to Ammonia and Ammonia Hydroxide, both of which are alkaline Compounds. The Bromthymol pH Indicator will change to an Offshore Deep Ocean Malibu Blue. • Citrate Negative (E. coli ) The Bacterium cannot use the provided Sodium Citrate and will not be able to grown. Since it cannot grow, it will not use the Ammonia Salt as a Nitrogen Source. The Bromthymol pH Indicator will remain a Cool and Refreshing Coastal Redwoods Green. Note that the Question we’re asking is “Can you use the provided Sodium Citrate as your Carbon and Energy Source?” but what we’re monitoring is “Can you break- down the provided Ammonia Salt to Alkaline Compounds?” ____________________________________________________________ I've been thinking. Tomorrow it will be twenty-eight years to the day that I've been in the service. Twenty-eight years in peace and war. I don't suppose I've been at home more than ten months in all that time. Still, it's been a good life. I loved India. I wouldn't have had it any other way. But there are times when suddenly you realize you're nearer the end than the beginning. And you wonder, you ask yourself, what the sum total of your life represents. What difference your being there at any time made to anything. Hardly made any difference at all, really, particularly in comparison with other men's careers. I don't know whether that kind of thinking's very healthy; but I must admit I've had some thoughts on those lines from time to time. © 1957 Horizon Pictures

Lab 7 Page 20 The Artificial Epidemic An Outbreak is a sudden, unexpected increase in a Disease among a particular Segment of the Population. Ebola is the scariest Outbreak; Legionnaires’ Disease is the most Classic Example. An Epidemic (G= upon the people) is a sudden Increase in a Disease above the normal, expected Level. The World is currently experiencing Epidemics for Cholera, and Malaria. A Pandemic (G = all people) is a sudden Increase in a Disease above the normal, expected Level in a large percentage of a Population over a large Area. The World is currently experiencing an AIDS Pandemic. Influenza tends to produce Pandemics every 10 Years. Next Time you’ll be able to trace the Progress of Jawa Fever and determine who was Patient Zero. You’ll also be able to determine the Morbidity of Jawa Fever over our “Three Day” Time Course (each Round of Handshaking being a “Day”), and we’ll assume a Mortality Rate of 0.25 so you can calculate the Theoretical Number of Students who’d be victims of Rebel Fever (“I’m not dead yet!”).

As a current student on this bumpy collegiate pathway, I stumbled upon Course Hero, where I can find study resources for nearly all my courses, get online help from tutors 24/7, and even share my old projects, papers, and lecture notes with other students.

The ability to access any university’s resources through Course Hero proved invaluable in my case. I was behind on Tulane coursework and actually used UCLA’s materials to help me move forward and get everything together on time.
